Plastic Bag Free Towns
Modbury: On 1st May 2007, Modbury was the first town in UK to go plastic bag free. Inspired by Rebecca Hosking's BBC film on the effects of plastic on our marine wildlife, the town decided to stop giving out plastic bags. Since then, many towns have followed their example. This site is a mine of information for anyone thinking about taking up the challenge.
Hebden Bridge: Most of their traders stopped issuing plastic bags by 1st September 2007. The site also has a lot of useful information.
Brighton is just starting a campaign
Emsworth in Hants started working for this goal in August 2006 with good results
Hay-on-Wye are looking to the End Of Plastic Bags
Other towns are doing the same such as Overton, Saltash and several London Boroughs.

The Independent gave their front cover and several pages to discussing the plastic bag ban on 14th November, 2007.
Inside they publish a map showing the towns that had already banned the bag and those planning to do so.
We are glad to say that Chesham was listed.
